Cabo Verde's Prime Minister met with FMB leadership during his recent visit to Maio, recognizing the organization's conservation work integrating sea, land, community, and economy.

FMB collaborates to host the Annual TAOLA+ meeting in Maio
In April, Maio Island hosted the TAOLA+ National Environmental Conservation Network's 2026 Annual Meeting, bringing together civil society organizations, public entities, and partners to define strategic conservation priorities in Cabo Verde. Leaders highlighted the importance of unity between organizations and the sharing of experiences to strengthen the protection of marine and terrestrial biodiversity across the archipelago.

FMB and Institute of the Sea join forces to promote marine sustainability on Maio
Maio Biodiversity Foundation (FMB) and the Institute of the Sea (IMAR) signed a collaboration protocol to strengthen marine conservation and sustainable development on Maio Island. The partnership focuses on scientific research, monitoring of threatened species, and community involvement in fisheries data collection.
Maio is an example in Cape Verde and in the world, based on "djunta mon", biodiversity conservation, and social progress rooted in respect for local culture and gender equality.
